Event Information

Dress in your brightest colours and run 5km or 10km around a beautifully lit woodland trail at Leigh Woods, Bristol, on 30th September.

Running and exercise are known to boost confidence, benefit mental health and make people smile, so we at Bristol charity Unseen are asking you to run the Neon Night Trail and raise money to help support the emotional wellbeing of survivors of modern day slavery.

With a brightly lit course, fun atmosphere and free refreshments courtesy of Boston Tea Party, we know you’ll have a great time. We’re asking you to set yourself a fundraising target of £200, to help support survivors to recover their self-esteem and build their confidence. Give yourself the freedom to run, while giving a survivor the freedom to rebuild their future.

The course is on an established route in Leigh Woods, just across Bristol’s Suspension Bridge, starting and finishing at the main car park in Coronation Avenue (BS8 3QB) The course is 2.5k, so a 5k distance is 2 laps and 10k is 4 laps. This isn’t a timed race; it’s all about challenging yourself and embracing the freedom of running.

Register your details and pay your £20 fee at https://neonnighttrail2017.eventbrite.co.uk. This fee covers a fully waymarked route, support from Unseen staff, marshals and medical staff, and fundraising advice and support in the run up to the event. Each participant will also receive a neon finisher’s medal.

We ask that you set yourself a fundraising target of £200, to help support survivors to recover their self-esteem and build their confidence.

Sign up now – entries close on 13th September.

The funds you raise at Neon Night Trail will help people like Mai. When Mai arrived at Unseen’s women’s safe house she was heavily pregnant. Mai found it very difficult to speak about her past, but from the little she told us, it would appear that she was trafficked and sexually exploited, from Vietnam, though several countries, to the UK. Mai’s trafficking experiences lasted 10 years.

Unseen was able to offer Mai ongoing support to access maternity and health care, access to baby items, and all important emotional support. Unseen also helped Mai with ongoing support through the asylum process, and liaised with social services regarding appropriate move-on accommodation for Mai and her baby. Mai gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby, and on leaving the safe house was looking forward to being a mother above anything else.

We hope to raise over £15,000 from this event, which could pay for a keyworker at our women’s safe-house for a year. This helps 15 women a year recover their self-esteem, build their confidence and gain key skills vital for their future independence.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There will be parking at the main car park in Coronation Avenue (BS8 3QB), which is also where the event village and beginning of the course are located. Am I still able to take part if I don't reach the fundraising target?
While we encourage you to set a fundraising target and have lots of fun trying to meet it, there is no minimum target to raise and anyone who has paid the registration fee to take part will be able to join in.
